Marquee AV delivers state-of-the-art AV solution for the Battlebridge Room at Kings Place

Marquee AV, a leading provider of audio-visual solutions for events and venues, has recently delivered a cutting-edge AV solution for the Battlebridge Room, one of the conference and event spaces in Kings Place, London’s King’s Cross area. Kings Place Events, an ongoing customer of Marquee AV, sell the 10 spaces within the building for various events and initiated the project. They wanted to enhance their existing AV system so that event technicians could use it more broadly.

Kings Place is a prominent cultural centre, creative hub, and mixed-use building, hosting events including conferences, receptions, music and performances. Dixon Jones, the same architectural firm that designed the National Gallery and the Royal Opera House, designed the building.

The Battlebridge room boasts stunning views of the Regent’s Canal and the city skyline and features natural daylight through the large windows covering the back of the room. Although a stunning architectural feat of the room, the reflective nature of the windows had to be factored in when designing the audio system.

The project scope, was to create flexible AV system for the event space, that can host up to 100 delegates in various layouts. When designing the new Audio-Visual system for The Battlebridge Room, Marquee AV’s intention was to match the sophisticated style and standard of the rest of the building.

Stacey Tough, Director at Marquee AV, managed the project. He designed a new audio system, around the Bose Professional, MA12EX column speakers, which deliver clear and consistent sound for the events. The column speakers slot neatly beside the screens at the front of the room, providing balanced sound coverage in the reflective space whilst remaining consistent with the clean, tidy aesthetic of the room.

The speakers are reinforced, by the Powersoft Mezzo-602AD and Mezzo-322AD amplifiers, which provide two channels of amplification. This enables high-quality audio transmission and distribution over the network, and offers remote control and monitoring of the AV system.

In addition to the audio system, the Battlebridge Room is now equipped with a Black Magic video hub system, which allows for high-quality video transmission and distribution for various events.

The Blackmagic Video system is made up of several components: the Smart Videohub 12 x12 SDI matrix, which can route and switch up to 12 SDI inputs and outputs; the Teranex HDMI to SDI 12G converters, which connect HDMI devices to the system and scale and adjust video signals as needed; and the Videohub 10×10 12G expansion, which adds 10 more SDI inputs and outputs to the system.

The system can handle different types of video sources and outputs, such as cameras, laptops, projectors, monitors, and recorders, and can switch between them with ease and flexibility. The system also supports 12G-SDI and HDMI signals, accommodating the most advanced video format, and can adjust the resolution and frame rate of the video signals as needed. This ensures that the video quality is consistent and optimal for events.

The Q-SYS CORE-110F v2 touchscreen control panel, provides advanced audio processing and networked audio channels and further supports various accessories to create a fully integrated audio, video and control solution. This was crucial for a large conference space, because it can accommodate different kinds of presentations, such as slideshows, videos, live streams, or interactive sessions, and to display them on multiple screens or devices.

Stacey Tough, said:

“Both aspects of the AV in this space have seen significant improvements. The Bose Professional MA12EX greatly enhanced sound distribution throughout the conference room, and the SDI implementation has stabilised and simplified the video path element of the requirement.”

Tom Jeyes, Production & Technology Director at Kings Place Music Foundation expressed his delight with the installation:

“From start to finish working with Stacey and his team has been great. We have had excellent communication throughout; they have kept to time scales and delivered an excellent product. It’s been a pleasure working with Marquee AV and we’ll continue to do so in the future.”
